Puss in boots.

The oldest written telling is by Italian author Giovanni Francesco Straparola, who included it in his The Facetious Nights of Straparola (c. 1550–1553) in XIV–XV. Another version was published in 1634 by Giambattista Basile with the title Cagliuso, and a tale was written in French at the close of the seventeenth century by Charles Perrault (1628–1703), a retired civil servant and member of the Académie française.

In this site students are going to reflect upon this fairy tale and think about alternative stories.

Topic: Speciesism.

The middle brother inherits a donkey and he is considered to be luckier than the youngest brother, who gets a cat.  Donkeys, a member of the horse family, have long been used as pack animals and for draft work in agriculture. Cats are domestic animals and can not be used for work. In the story, there are other animals which are offered as food.

Topic: Superficiality. Preconceptions about women's roles.

The children receive different inheritances, there is no justice in the distribution, however, the older brother does not care about his younger siblings. The king offers his daughter's hand to the supposed marquis, thinking he is a wealthy man. The princess instantly falls in love with the miller's son when she sees how well dressed he is.

A new narrative line can be made bearing in mind aspects such as equality between siblings, empathy, looking beyond the superficial. Also, consider the power women have to make decisions based on aspects that go beyond appearance. The person a woman decides to marry should not be the result of an arrangement made between men.

Task.

Use Genially or Canvas, and Spreaker to transmit the new narrative line, make your own drawings to accompany your story.
